The above is a good summary of learning requirements in preschool and reception levels. It provides a good reference point to ensure one is on the right track.
The following are some notes given by a primary school teacher on what A should be doing this year:
- Know the sounds of the letters in his name.
- Practice writing his name.
- Counting to five, recognizing the numbers up to five and writing them.
- Ordering the numbers.
- Start with counting objects, (play with dice).

- Regular breakfast time, washing/ changing routine.
- Circle time (a group activity that uses songs, rhymes and finger plays, stories and familiar objects or items of interest as the platform for engaging children in verbal communication).
- Indulging in creative tasks.
- Bedtime routine (involving quality time)
Sidenotes: include child in daily chores (even if they take longer!)
